Castel Montgri
L’Estartit

This site is situated by the small resort of L'Estartit, about 60 miles from Gerona.
It is a large site but is placed on the side of a mountain, which dominates the skyline. From the site, the views are simply superb as you look East to the Medas Isles basking in the bay, and to the South and West where mountains dominate and through a pair of binoculars small villages can be seen perching precariously.
The site itself has three swimming pools, one being the largest on the Costa Brava. This and the lower pool are mainly used by families. But the jewel of the site for me was La Basa. It is the third pool midway up the mountain and we made the journey twice.( Closed in 2000 due to a landslide )
You seem to be walking endlessly up paths and steps, the views getting even better,
the site being left far below. Panting and sweating, you mount the last few steps
to meet a scene of outstanding beauty. A waterfall cascades down the mountainside
and into the pool. A bar with frosted glasses of beer greets you. But first-
There are many pitches and plentiful bars. It is very busy but we found it easy to escape the throng of the discos and karaoke’s.
Play areas for the kiddies and small paddling pools litter the site with a large area for the bat and ball.
There is a great restaurant serving traditional Spanish food, Pizzeria, Cinema,
bouncy castle, shops -
A great site we're already talking of returning to Castel Montgri.

The Madcaravanner has also visited this site and I have to agree with Carl although La Basa was closed ( because of a landslide) the site is well laid out and we had a good end of season party.
The one thing we found was that the sites bars were poorly organised and impersonal.
We found the roof top bar at the Saratoga bar/restaurant much more lively and orientated for the customer than the till with loads of competitions and good food.
I found some very good fishing at the next town in the River Ter ( Rio Ter ) /Sea
fish below the weir and freshwater fish above the weir best of both worlds sport
in freshwater and eating fish in the brackish water below the weir. The weir attracted
lots of anglers from the locals to holiday makers like me, We all had a laugh when
a man came down to the weir with wife in tow it was obvious from her speech she was
fuming with him for buying a fishing rod -
